The Governor’s Scholars Program highly recommends scholars involve themselves in clubs throughout their stay. Kindness Club has been a GSP tradition through the years to promote a positive environment for the community. This year, RA Calder Beasley sponsored Kindness Club to help keep this tried-and-true tradition for scholars.

RA Calder is always open to new ideas a scholar may have. When scholar Evelyn Dugan introduced the idea of “Friendship Rocks” for the next project, Calder was all in.

The concept behind “Friendship Rocks” has been a trend in the past couple of years, but is new to GSP. The system works by first decorating rocks to then pass to a new person you meet in the community. Ultimately, creating an interactive way to meet new people and explore new friendships.

This past Thursday, RAs Calder Beasley and Jacob Moossy hosted a rock painting party for Kindness Club members. Scholars painted over fifty rocks to hand out to their new friends in the program.

The Governors Scholars Program aims to create a positive community in which scholars can not only thrive but become leaders in society. In addition to contributing to the atmosphere of the Murray State campus, Kindness Club gives ideas for scholars to take kindness back to their communities all around the Commonwealth.

Scholars are welcome to join Kindness Club! The next time you pass one of the Racer Reports around campus, check for the next club meeting.
