INTRAMURAL FIELDS– Murray State was abuzz Monday evening with scholars exploring numerous options for enhancing their physical fitness and making connections at GSP.
On July 3, GSP Murray held its annual Fitness Fest to promote physical wellbeing among scholars. The event began with a massive and rowdy rock-paper-scissors tournament among all of those in attendance, where, upon losing, a given scholar had to join the crowd cheering on their former rival. Jacob Pate was crowned the winner after a few short rounds, although the RAs in charge soon revealed to the elated crowd that there was no final prize.
After this, the crowd was given an extensive list of breakout groups for various sports and activities they could join, ensuring everyone had something to enjoy. Such groups included soccer, basketball, yoga and ultimate Frisbee, to name a few. Each event was overseen by an RA, many of whom participated themselves – to the dread of their opponents. Grant Gott, the RA head of the basketball group, said of the event, “I dominated most of the games . . . It was fun, though, it was a good time.”
Although Fitness Fest is a one-time event for each GSP term, scholars always have the opportunity to pursue the physical activities they love, with Murray State Intramural Fields, tennis courts, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, and the Susan E. Bauernfeind Wellness Center all being open and available to scholars during their stay on campus.
