On July 6, scholars from Anne Justice’s “Oh My Goodness” general studies class volunteered at Need Line, a community based food charity. There, scholars lended a helping hand in preparing supplies for distribution. Need Line is one of the primary food charities in the area, as they serve about 15 families a day. Families can come once a month to receive necessities. Need Line has various donation programs including some for senior citizens, abuse survivors, students, and the homeless. Need Line receives USDA regulated food, but the bulk of their resources comes from local donations from the community.
Ray Miller, who started with Need Line in 2021 as a forklift operator, is now the warehouse manager for the organization’s Calloway County chapter. Miller mentioned how vital community donations are for the organization. While churches, businesses, and fraternities do account for a notable amount of donations, individual community members remain the most impactful partners.
With this in mind, two of GSP’s general study classes have decided to hold a donation drive for Need Line. Scholars, faculty, and staff can hygiene products and non-perishable food in the GSP office during operating hours until July 17. Every item donated item counts, so make sure to help out however possible!
